Just Desserts

Vancouver has an amazing array of restaurants featuring local ingredients and ethnic cuisine. Once you’ve enjoyed poutine, smoked salmon, sushi, or pho, you might want to indulge your sweet tooth. Here are some dessert places to check out in downtown Vancouver.

Another place chocolate lovers will enjoy is Mink Chocolates Cafe, which regularly participates in Vancouver’s Hot Chocolate Festival held in February. Along with coffee and tea, they also serve waffles, fruit parfaits, and personal fondues. Mink Chocolates Cafe is located at  863 West Hastings St. and is open Mon-Fri: 7.30am-6pm | Sat and Sun: 9.30am-5pm.

Cartems Donuts

After you complete your obligatory Tim Horton’s run, you might want to treat yourself to a gourmet donut from Cartems, located at 534 W Pender St. near Harbour Centre. Cartems also offers vegan and gluten-friendly donuts (VGF) including Smoked Maple Walnut, Apple Fritter, and Earl Grey.

Parallel 49 and Lucky’s Doughnuts

Another good place to get a delicious doughnut is Parallel 49 (689 Thurlow St.), a cafe chain that serves Lucky’s Doughnuts. They also have vegan and gluten-friendly doughnuts – take a look here to see what doughnuts the downtown location typically carries.

Bella Gelateria is one of the most popular places to have gelato in Vancouver. See here for a list of year-round flavours on offer to enjoy. Bella Gelateria is located at 1001 West Cordova St.

Passione Gelato

A new gelato shop which opened just weeks ago, Passione Gelato already seems to be getting a lot of buzz. Its owner and operator, Salvatore Boccarossa, formerly worked at Bella Gelateria and is a graduate of the world-famous Carpigiani Gelato University (who knew there was a university specializing in gelato making? I may need to rethink my educational choices…). Passione Gelato is located at 55 Smithe St.

Cacao 70

Originating in Montreal, Cacao 70 has several locations in Vancouver where they serve a variety of treats, including waffles and (my favourite) soft-serve dipped cones (including praline, coffee, matcha, black sesame, and more).
